My name is Flint Garrabrant. I am 34 years old, and currently beginning coursework for my Master's in Art Education at the Ohio State University. This blog will be updated with posts related to my coursework for this program.

My undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Arts from Otterbein College (now University) in 2009, where I majored in Art Education. I earned concentrations in Drawing, Painting, and Photography with an Art History minor. I have also attended school at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh through their Online Division for Studio Photography.

I have taught in some capacity since 2009. I have substitute taught for 3 years in over 10 school districts and 100 individual schools, from grades K-12. My first year teaching was at a science focused elementary charter school in Columbus, OH. I currently teach visual art at a high school level outside central Ohio, and have completed my 5th year in that school this past May of 2021. I teach the Drawing and Painting courses, as well as an Art 2D/3D course and an Advanced Art Studio course. We are currently in process of moving into a new school building and I look forward to creating a new studio space for my students that will serve them to the fullest.

On a personal note, I just celebrated my first anniversary with my wife (yes, we got married during the pandemic), and I look forward to many more. We have purchased our first home together last year, and we're still in process of getting settled. I am very pleased with the new home since I finally have a home studio that is appropriately sized for the work I do, with some added breathing room.

I am a practicing artist with a diverse interest in media, though my current comfort zone is with charcoal, watercolor, as well as creating work in mixed media. Since the pandemic began last spring and we have all had to learn to become more tech savvy, I have branched out into working with the Blender program to create 3D graphics and animation. I have always had an interest in learning new things and hope to pass that interest on to my students. There is always something new to explore and incorporate into my art.

I have noticed since I graduated high school that I have had to adapt to new situations and job criteria almost on a yearly basis, and I feel profoundly lucky to have been prepared to use what I've learned in school and out to accommodate the changing landscape we live in. One of my greatest hopes is to build a program of art education in my school which not only teaches the content of visual art, but to train my students to use their creativity to tackle the new and unforeseen situations that will arise in their future. The only constant is change, and I look forward to what new changes and challenges we will surmount in the future.
